Watching, waiting, reading, hacking

It’s an odd period of limbo at the moment. Went out and saw The Lego Movie: certainly one of those kids’ films which rewards adults (or whatever the hell we are) by being sharp, witty and fun – although it was hardly the Communist Manifesto some reviewers got a bit carried away imagining. Also stayed in and saw 1995’s Hackers: well-deserving of all the loving ridicule it gets. (“Set your laptop to file receive mode!”)

I also re-read Lolita in its entirety after abandoning it halfway many years ago. I’m really glad I did because although the pace does tail off massively after the beginning, it remains a great piece of literature about a superbly creepy rationalisation of abuse. Difficult to read in parts, but well worth the effort.
